In Australia, much of the land has altered with the colonization
by England. Land has been indiscriminately cleared. Consequently
most species of parrot have been affected dramatically. Not
all species have suffered, some have benefited by the introduction
of water sources for stock, but by in large our impact has been detrimental.
One of the major concerns is the continued clearing of land and
also many farmers obsession to take out old and in some cases, dead
trees. The
farmer is ignorant of the fact that old live trees and dead trees
provide most of the nest sites for the majority of Australian species
of parrot and many other forms of wildlife. This also holds
true for other parts of the world.
